1st official “summer school” at Zemplín – great people, wine and obsidian

The last week of August 2022 saw the first official meeting of the summer school of archeology at Zemplín (the first “official” one, because the unofficial event that explored the possibilities of these meetings took place a year ago).

Colleagues arrived from Poland, Bratislava, but of course the locals (Košice and Michalovce) had the main say. The mayor of Zemplín, Ing. Mikuláš Takács had the meeting perfectly organized in terms of infrastructure, the weather was kind to us (well, if you like the Caribbean…).
The weekly meeting included expert lectures (lidar – Peter Bisták, Tibor Lieskovský), obsidian industry (Dagmara H. Werra, Piotr Werens), community archeology (Richard Oľhava, Ďobo Ch. Koštial) and, of course, the current state of research on the Zemlín hillfort (Martin Pristáš) .

We checked that the surrounding fields yield a lot of obsidian and visited Kráľovský Chlmec and Čierna nad Tisou
